Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension lifted, will play in Round of 16

(WLUK) — Folarin Balogun’s one-game ban by FIFA was suspended Sunday, clearing the way for the United States men’s national team forward to play in the Round of 16 against Belgium on Monday.

Balogun was shown a red card in the 64th minute of the Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina after stepping on the foot of Tarik Muharemovi. The forward also scored the first goal in the United States’ 2-0 win, sending them to the Round of 16.

“The implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year,” FIFA announced Sunday. “If Folarin Balogun commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.”

The United States will face Belgium for the eighth time in their international soccer history, and the third time in the World Cup. They’re only win in seven previous matches came in the Inaugural 1930 World Cup where the U.S. finished as a Semi-Finalist.
