The Head of the Presidential Council the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, Mohammed Menfi, met with the Acting Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush, to review the latest developments in efforts to unify Libya’s military institution, as well as the practical measures and steps taken toward that goal.
The meeting was held on Saturday at the Presidential Council headquarters in Tripoli.
According to Menfi’s media office, Al-Namroush provided a comprehensive briefing on his participation in the African Chiefs of Defence Conference, hosted in Luanda, Angola.
The meeting comes as sources close to the military institution said that Chief of the General Staff Salah Al-Namroush is expected to hold a joint meeting with Khaled Haftar in the city of Sirte.
The sources said the meeting will focus on steps to unify the military institution, following discussions held between the two sides in Luanda. They added that the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) discussed with Al-Namroush and Khaled Haftar the next steps toward military unification and ending the institutional split.
Al-Namroush and Khaled Haftar met with the Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, on the sidelines of the African Chiefs of Defence Conference in Luanda, where they discussed military unification and bilateral military cooperation.
