Several opposition leaders have attended the 22nd anniversary celebration of former President George Weah’s Coalition for Democratic Change, igniting debates about the likelihood of a united opposition coalition ahead of the 2029 election. While no formal coalition agreement was announced, analysts say the gathering projected an “unmistakable image” of opposition solidarity.
Addressing the audience through a livestream from the U.S., Weah urged cooperation among the political parties: “Our differences should never become obstacles to defending Liberia. Whenever democracy is threatened, whenever citizens are struggling, and whenever accountability becomes weakened, responsible opposition leaders have a duty to stand together regardless of party affiliation.”
