Mukalla — Journalist Mohammed Ayedha, correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath TV channels, was killed Wednesday when an explosive device detonated in his car in the city of Mukalla, Hadramout province, sparking shock across media and local communities.
Local sources said the bomb exploded as Ayedha’s vehicle passed along Sixtieth Street near the Pakistani School, igniting the car and killing him instantly.
His body was transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital in Mukalla, while security authorities launched an investigation into the incident and potential perpetrators.
Al Arabiya reporter Radfan al-Dubais revealed that Mukalla’s security directorate had warned Ayedha about threats to his life nearly a month ago, urging him to take the alerts seriously. He added that the journalist had faced continuous intimidation in recent weeks.
According to available information, Ayedha was alone in the car at the time of the blast, shortly after dropping off his family at home. The powerful explosion left the vehicle completely charred at the scene.
The killing of Ayedha underscores the grave risks faced by journalists in Yemen, where threats, targeted attacks, and violence against media professionals remain widespread amid ongoing instability.
