3 Lesotho nationals linked to Cleveland mass shooting due in court

Three Lesotho nationals arrested in connection with the deadly Jumpers informal settlement mass shooting are set to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

The trio, aged 26, 32 and 36, were arrested on Wednesday following the brutal attack, which left 13 people dead and 14 others injured, at the informal settlement in Cleveland earlier in June.

While the police have not yet confirmed any links to the violence, residents said the attack was linked to illegal mining activities.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has praised investigators for cracking the case, saying specialised teams worked around the clock to track down those allegedly responsible for the mass shooting.
