WANA (Jun 24) – The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a relaxation of travel restrictions for the Iranian national football team, allowing them a smoother transit ahead of their upcoming World Cup match.
After playing their first two group stage matches in Los Angeles, the Iranian squad is scheduled to travel to Seattle for their third group stage fixture against Egypt.
The policy shift follows repeated public criticisms from Iran’s head coach, Amir Ghalenoei. Ghalenoei had previously voiced frustration over the team’s grueling travel schedule, which forced them to commute from Tijuana, Mexico, to match venues and prevented them from arriving at host cities until two days prior to kickoff. Ghalenoei had labeled Iran “the most aggrieved team in the World Cup” due to these logistical hurdles.
In response, the DHS confirmed that restrictions governing the team’s travel within the United States have been eased. Under the new directive, the Iranian national football team is permitted to arrive at the match venue in Seattle two days ahead of their clash with Egypt.
Iran is set to face Egypt in their final Group G match on Saturday, June 27, at 6:30 AM.
