Storm causes numerous downed trees and wires in Burke, Va.

Numerous fallen trees and downed wires lined the streets of a Burke, Virginia, neighborhood after strong storms crossed through much of the D.C. region Monday afternoon.

Parts of Guinea Road were shut down after massive tree limbs snapped and fell. 7News spotted cars crushed under some of the trees, and videos shared on social media showed a USPS postal truck surrounded by downed wires earlier in the evening.

Nearby, road signs were also knocked down.

Despite some wondering if a tornado had gone through the neighborhood, a preliminary report from the National Weather Service found little evidence of such, determining the damage was mostly caused by the storm’s winds.
