Somalia Welcomes U.S.-Iran Deal to Reduce Tensions | Dawan Africa

Somalia, 23 June 2026 – Somalia welcomed the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, calling it a step toward reducing tensions and supporting regional stability.

The memorandum is aimed at lowering tensions between Washington and Tehran and creating a framework for further negotiations. International reports say the understanding includes steps linked to a temporary easing of U.S. sanctions, renewed nuclear-related engagement, efforts to support ceasefires and measures to safeguard commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on Monday, Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry praised both sides for choosing diplomacy and constructive engagement to ease tensions and promote peace.

Somalia also commended what it called the constructive efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in support of the diplomatic progress.
