The fabric of the Colombia National Team jersey competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup includes an exceptional additional fiber. The garment, which for years has become a true national symbol, is manufactured in the country by a Colombian company, reinforcing its national identity.
That fact, which in some way stitches the jersey even more tightly not only to the players but also to Colombian fans, is a little-known yet significant detail because the manufacturing company managed to outperform true giants of the industry that dominate such contracts around the world.
Many Years Pursuing the Dream of Making the Jersey
The company Supertex, which has its plant in Cali, has been manufacturing the national team’s official uniform for more than ten years. It earned that privilege after investing another ten years proving that Colombia could compete with major Asian sportswear manufacturers.
Eduardo Herrera, CEO of the Cali-based company, recalled that in 2004 they began trying to produce the Colombia National Team jersey. “Our competitor was Asia. In 2014 we developed the garment. We were practically the only Latin American country that had the product ready on time, and we became an opportunity for them,” Herrera recalled in a video distributed by Cali’s Secretariat of Development.
Supertex demonstrated its ability to meet the demanding quality standards, delivery schedules, and production volumes required by major international brands, and it received the opportunity it had long sought. That opened the door for the company to also manufacture jerseys for national teams such as Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
Regarding Colombia’s jersey, Herrera explained that his company began producing it in June 2025 in order to meet the schedule calling for it to be available on the market in November. In any case, production continued until last March.
“There are about 600,000 of the yellow jersey, and close to 250,000 of the blue one,” the businessman said. “If Colombia performs well in the World Cup, there could be demand for additional units.”
A Source of Pride for Cali
The company was founded in 1993 as the Colombian representative of brands such as Adidas and Arena, among others. Today it also manufactures products for Nike and other major global sports brands such as Under Armour and Patagonia.
“We even produced jerseys for the German national team, Bayern Munich, the English team, Rangers…” Herrera recalled proudly.
The company later opened a plant in El Salvador and is now expanding into Guatemala. At the Cali facility, 1,100 people work, most of them single mothers who are heads of household.
For all these reasons, Cali’s administration has showered praise on one of the city’s most important companies. “The Colombia National Team jersey is made in Cali! Local talent manufactures the jersey that millions of people will wear during this World Cup,” it says on its social media platforms.
“Behind this garment is Supertex, a Cali-based company full of history, commitment, and passion for doing things well,” the emotional post adds. “Cali is world-class, and the talent of our companies proves that this is a place where products are made, innovation happens, and opportunities are created for the city’s economic development. Because when a company from Cali reaches the world, Cali moves forward as well. And did you already know that from Cali comes the uniform that dresses the dream of an entire country?”
