Yemen’s STC Slams Asset Freeze Decision as “Illegal”

Aden – The Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched a sharp attack Thursday evening against the Attorney General’s decision to impose a precautionary freeze on the council’s funds and accounts, describing the measure as “illegal” and a misuse of judicial institutions for political conflict.

In a statement, the STC’s Legal and Human Rights Department said its review concluded that the decision lacks legal and constitutional basis, as it was issued without a final court ruling, specific charges, or completion of due legal procedures.

The department warned that the move represents a dangerous precedent of politicizing justice and undermining the principles of rule of law and judicial independence, while infringing on the council’s political and organizational rights.

It stressed that the decision directly targets STC President Aidarous al-Zubaidi, viewing it as an attempt to pressure the council’s leadership and reshape the southern political landscape away from the will of the people.

The STC declared its outright rejection of the decision, holding those behind it legally and politically accountable, and affirmed its right to challenge the measure before local and international courts. The council also urged human rights organizations and the international community to monitor the case and prevent actions that could undermine the political process and stability.
