RESIDENTS of Benin, Edo, on Thursday expressed excitement over the nearly completed Ramat Park Flyover, urging the state to fast track its completion to help ease traffic congestion in the city.
The residents stated this when Gov. Monday Okpebholo embarked on an inspection tour of construction work on the flyover.
Okpebholo, while addressing newsmen, expressed satisfaction with the level of work but said it would be completed in November.
According to him, the roads around the flyover are equally beautiful unlike in the past, and add to the beauty of the area, hitherto disturbed by flood.
“We are hoping that President Bola Tinubu is coming to commission this project by November, during my two years celebration in office.
“We would have made a lot of progress on more infrastructural developments, the park should also be ready before then. This place is a tourist attraction.
“You can see how excited the children and residents are, they’re happy and having fun, and if you ask me, that’s the essence,” he said.
The governor explained that removal of fuel subsidy by President Tinubu remained the best decision, as no governor is currently owing salaries due to the Federal allocation they are receiving.
On his part, the Flyover Project Manager, Li Jianshou, said the project is over 95 per cent done.
Jianshou explained that what is left to complete the work is installation of street lights, junction expansion, road marking and painting of the bridge.
He assured that they would deliver the work for commissioning by November as stated by the the governor.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that excited residents, especially traders in the area, trooped out in their large numbers, singing praises of the governor and his entourage.
One of the residents, Mrs Queen Ehanire, said that Benin is more beautiful now, compared to past years, and eulogisesd Okpebholo as the best governor so far.
Ehanire noted that the project has already changed the face of Ikpoba Hill and restored hope among people living and doing business in the area.
Another resident, Mr James Osaibgovo, said the project has further renewed confidence in business owners, pointing out that the facility would attract more visitors and commercial activities to the area when completed.
A commercial driver, Mr David Uwadia said the redesigned park would help reduce traffic congestion and enhance transportation within the area.
