IGAD Reaffirms Support for South Sudan’s Peace Process, Democratic Transition, and Election Preparations During High-Level Meeting with President Salva Kiir


June 17, 2026 (Juba, South Sudan): The IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, H.E. Amb. Moussa Djama Ali, accompanied by the IGAD Head of Mission to South Sudan, Dr. Victoria Anib, today met with H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan.

The Special Envoy conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, and the IGAD Chairperson, H.E. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti.

The meeting forms part of IGAD’s continued engagement in support of the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and the country’s transition towards democratic governance.

Discussions focused on recent political developments, progress in implementing the Revitalised Peace Agreement, preparations for elections, and efforts to advance a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic transition. The parties underscored the importance of sustained political dialogue, confidence building, and adherence to the provisions of the Agreement in advancing peace, stability, and national cohesion.

The IGAD delegation reaffirmed the Organisation’s commitment to accompanying South Sudan in the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement and in creating conditions conducive to peaceful, credible, inclusive, and transparent elections.

President Salva Kiir welcomed IGAD’s continued engagement and reiterated the Government’s commitment to advancing the peace process and working closely with regional and international partners in support of the successful implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.
