True love has a way of revealing hidden talents and for national senior football team midfielder, Devon Williams, that hidden talent appears to be song writing.
On January 1 this year, Williams tied the knot with his high school sweetheart, Tamika. The couple met while Mrs Williams was a sixth form student at the pair’s alma mater, St. George’s College in Kingston, Jamaica in 2009.
Fourteen years later, they got married in an intimate ceremony at the picturesque Panorama Estate in Coopers Hill, St Andrew. But Williams wanted to do one more thing for his high school sweetheart.
Speaking with Nationwide Online, Williams said, with time on his hands due to Covid-19 imposed lockdowns in 2020, he had time to explore other talents.
The soft-spoken 31-year-old from central Kingston said he was struck by a bolt of inspiration while scrolling on X, at the time known as Twitter.
“I saw a lady saying that she’s happy every moment spent with her husband,” said Williams. “It made me think about my wife, which was my girlfriend at the time. The words started to flow from there.”
“I wrote every word in the song from 2020,” said Williams. “I’ve been searching for someone to sing it.”
Patience and precision, hallmarks of Williams’ displays in midfield, were again key as he waited more than two years to find the person to bring his dream to life.
The track titled, ‘Thank You’ is voiced by MeiPia, an Ocala, Florida-based songstress, who Williams was introduced to through a friend last year. You can listen the full track by MeiPia here.
Now, fast approaching the one year anniversary of his nuptials with entrepreneur, Tamika, Williams took to social media to dedicate the track to his wife and to reveal the role he played in bringing it to life.
