Milford FC have been promoted to the Betway Premiership following a 1-1 draw against Magesi FC, who have now been relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Fixture: Magesi FC v Milford FC
Score: 1-1
Goalscorers: Chirambadare (14′) / Chili (59′)
The task was quite simple for Allan Freese’s charges, who needed maximum points to retain their top-flight status after playing to a 1-1 draw against Cape Town City over the weekend, while Milford only needed a point as they came into the clash top of the mini-table.
The players understood the assignment from the onset and dominated possession unlike their previous encounters, where they allowed the opponent to have the ball and they got their reward on 14 minutes when Edmore Chirambadare nodded home a cross from Reagan van der Ross.
Milford had no chance but to come out of their shell and take the game to Magesi as a loss would have ended their promotion hopes but they had to wait until the 35th minute for a lifeline after being awarded a penalty for a handball in the box.
However, Philander stepped up to take responsibility but ended up sending his spot-kick against the crossbar despite goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze being sent the wrong way.
The visitors remained in high spirits going into the second half and got their reward just before the hour mark as Menzi Chilli brought Milford level with a superb first-time volley from the edge of the box that sailed into the bottom corner.
Freese’s charges then upped the tempo as time began to run out at the Seshego Stadium, but Championship side heeded the call and were able to keep cool heads in the latter stages of the second period to deny their top-flight counter-parts any clear looks at goal.
