Police minister intensifies search for Kamogelo Baukudi

The National Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, has allocated more resources in the search for missing Bloemfontein teenager, Kamogelo Baukudi.

Baukudi has been missing since 5 June 2025, after he was allegedly taken by men dressed in police uniform.

According to the minister’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi, the police have embarked on a province-wide search for the 19-year-old.

SAPS DETAIL RESOURCES USED TO SEARCH FOR KAMOGELO BAUKUDI

“A multi-disciplinary team was established comprising amongst others, detectives, members from Crime Intelligence and Visible Policing, a hostage negotiator, with the assistance of the Private Security Industry,” said Mogotsi.

She said SAPS has followed up on multiple leads that they were able to get through their investigations.

Mogotsi further said they have spoken to various family members and friends of Baukudi, with hopes of locating the missing teen.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES

On 9 June 2025, The South African reported that one suspect, a police officer from the Free State, had been arrested in connection with Baukudi’s disappearance.

The suspect remains in custody and will be appearing in court on 24 June 2025, where he is expected to make a bail application.

“The investigation is still underway and the Ministry assures the public that maximum resources have been deployed to ensure Kamogelo’s safe return,” said Mogotsi.

A CLARION CALL

According to Mogotsi, the police have held several briefings to update the minister on the developments of the investigations.

However she concedes that none of the developments have resulted in the safe return of young Baukudi. Mogotsi urges the public to assist them in finding the teenager.

She has called for anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Colonel Kelaotswe Lebodi on 082 527 6348. They may also contact Lieutenant Colonel David Ramasoala on 082 527 7390. Alternatively, they can call Captain Sabata Jafta Moseme on 082 526 2713.
