KANO (CONVERSEER) – Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Friday visited Kano’s largest phone market located at Farm Centre to sympathise with traders affected by a recent fire outbreak that ravaged parts of the market.

The inferno, which caused widespread damage, destroyed goods worth millions of naira and disrupted business activities in the bustling commercial hub.

Senator Barau, during his visit, expressed deep concern over the extent of the devastation, describing the incident as a major economic setback for the state.

In a move to support recovery efforts, the Deputy Senate President announced a donation of N200 million. According to him, the funds will be used to provide security and other essential gadgets for the traders, aimed at cushioning the effects of the inferno and preventing future occurrences.

“The Farm Centre phone market is not just a commercial centre; it is a major source of income for hundreds of youths in Kano State. We must ensure its protection and sustainability,” Senator Barau said.

He stressed the importance of proactive security measures in commercial environments, adding that preventing such incidents is as vital as responding to them.

The senator’s visit and donation have been widely commended by the traders and residents, many of whom described his gesture as timely and impactful in the face of economic hardship.
