Nvidia’s Arm-based PC chip reportedly headed to Alienware laptops

Nvidia’s anticipated Arm-based PC chip could make its first appearance in Alienware laptops by late 2025 or early 2026, according to a report from the Taiwanese publication United Daily News. The graphics giant is reportedly collaborating with MediaTek to develop an accelerated processing unit (APU) that combines an Arm-powered CPU with Nvidia’s advanced Blackwell GPU architecture.

This potential entry into the Arm CPU market could significantly enhance the Windows on Arm gaming experience. Currently, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips rely on Microsoft’s Prism software for game emulation, which often leads to limited game compatibility and suboptimal performance on Qualcomm’s GPUs. Nvidia’s direct involvement with an Arm CPU could offer a much-needed boost to native Arm gaming on Windows.

Rumours about Nvidia’s Arm-based chip first emerged in 2023, positioning it as a new competitor to Intel’s offerings and Qualcomm’s existing Arm processors. Just last week, YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead showcased what appeared to be a leaked image of Nvidia’s rumoured APU, with sources suggesting it could operate between 80W and 120W.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hinted at these plans in January, reportedly stating during an investor presentation that the company has “plans” for the Arm-based CPU found in Digits, its personal AI supercomputer. Dell CEO Michael Dell also teased Nvidia’s potential entry into the AI PC market in a 2024 interview, responding with “come back next year” when asked about their presence.

Nvidia isn’t alone in potentially challenging Qualcomm’s current dominance in the Arm-based CPU sector. MediaTek is also rumoured to be developing its own Arm chip, while recent reports suggest that AMD is working on an Arm-based chip specifically for Microsoft Surface laptops, indicating a growing competitive landscape in the Arm PC space.
