Katsina gov unveils fresh moves to crush banditry after another deadly attack

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has restated his government’s determination to stamp out banditry and protect lives and property across the state.

Governor Radda made the declaration on Friday during a condolence visit to Gobirawa village in Dutsinma Local Government Area, where a recent attack by armed bandits left several residents dead.

The visit came days after the deadly assault sparked widespread outrage and grief.

While sympathizing with the affected community, Radda assured residents that his administration was putting new strategies in place to strengthen local security networks.

“As soon as we got intelligence of a planned attack, we mobilised security personnel to this village,” he said. “Unfortunately, the attackers struck shortly after the operatives left, a development we deeply regret.”

In a swift response to the tragedy, the governor instructed the Dutsinma Local Government Chairman to select five community representatives for a strategic meeting on improving grassroots security engagement.

He also called on residents to be vigilant and help identify informants believed to be working with bandit groups. “Community cooperation is critical to defeating this threat,” he stressed.

Governor Radda was accompanied by top local officials, including the lawmaker representing Dutsinma in the State Assembly, Mohammad Khamis; Yandakan Katsina District Head, Alhaji Sada Sada; and Dutsinma Council Chairman, Kabir Shema.

In a separate development, the governor visited Charanci Local Government Area to inspect work on a new “Smart School” project in Radda town. The initiative is part of his administration’s effort to expand access to quality education, especially in underserved areas.

The Radda-led government is building three model secondary schools—one in each senatorial district—aimed at equipping students with modern learning tools.

During the inspection, Radda urged contractors to improve the pace and quality of work, warning against delays that could undermine the project’s goals.
