CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Biase Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State has earned commendations for its sweeping infrastructural strides, which have turned the council into a haven for investors and a model of peace and development within the state.
The praise came from the Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River State Planning Commission, Dr Bong Duke, weekend, during an official assessment tour designed to evaluate the performance of all 18 local government chairmen in the state.
Speaking at the assessment exercise, Dr Duke described the Hon. Edodi Eyong-led Biase as “exemplary,” citing the council’s accomplishments in road construction, environmental beautification, and sustainable infrastructure projects. These efforts, he said, have attracted cross-party recognition.
“Biase has set a standard for local government administration in Cross River State. I call on other council chairmen to emulate the commitment and development-focused leadership we have seen here,” Duke stated.
He also commended Governor Bassey Otu for his reform-oriented leadership and the ongoing transformation under his “People’s First” agenda.

Representing the Biase Council Chairman during the visit, Vice Chairman Hon. Ekuma Ngwu expressed gratitude for the commendation and reaffirmed the chairman’s commitment to grassroots development.
He noted that Hon. Eyong’s performance has earned him the nickname “Mr Project” among constituents.
“We are grateful to His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, for their invaluable support and guidance. Their leadership has provided the enabling environment for us to thrive and deliver for the people,” he said.
Ngwu outlined key achievements under the current administration, including the completion of multiple infrastructure projects and six major community development programmes.
He further announced the rollout of a scholarship scheme supporting 110 undergraduates with N200,000 each and 20 postgraduate students with N250,000 each.
Other notable initiatives include the renovation of classroom blocks in several primary schools and the full rehabilitation of the iconic Abini Ultra Modern Market, an economic hub in the LGA.
