Mobile is shutting down after just a year

Activision is beginning the process of shutting down Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, a little over a year after its global launch. In a post on X, the company stated that the game “has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences.” The game will be removed from both the App Store and Google Play following today, Sunday, May 18th, 2025.

For players who have already installed the game before tomorrow, Monday, May 19th, Activision has confirmed that they will “still have access to the game with continued cross-progression of shared inventories using existing content, and servers with matchmaking for online play.”

However, Activision has also clarified that there will be no new seasonal content, gameplay updates, or cross-platform social features. Furthermore, players will no longer be able to purchase content using real-world currency, as detailed on the game’s support page. Activision will not be offering refunds for previously purchased content or for any unspent COD Points within the game.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had its worldwide release on March 21st, 2024, and notably featured shared progression with its PC and console counterpart, Call of Duty: Warzone. Despite this integration, the game apparently did not achieve the desired level of success with mobile-first gamers for Activision and Microsoft, which has significantly expanded its presence in the mobile gaming market following its recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The swift wind-down of the title suggests a significant underperformance in the competitive mobile gaming landscape.
