Mamelodi Sundowns can win Betway Premiership title on Tuesday

Thanks to their classy Betway Premiership win over Stellenbosch FC on Sunday, Mamelodi Sundowns are are officially one point away from being crowned league champions for a record-extending eighth successive season.

Masandawana picked up a 3-0 victory over Stellies thanks to goals from Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Iqraam Rayners and Arthur Sales.

Bafana Ba Style are closing in on the league title – and could officially be crowned champions without kicking another ball!

Vastly inferior goal differential

Mamelodi Sundowns are now 15 points head of closest challengers Orlando Pirates, who have three matches in hand.

Should Orlando Pirates win their remaining five matches, at best they will only tie Mamelodi Sundowns’ current points tally.

To deny the Tshwane giants the title, the Buccaneers would also need to vastly improve their goal differential AND have Masandawana lose their final two fixtures.

Orlando Pirates are next in action on Tuesday, 13 May against 14th-placed Golden Arrows at 19:30.

Anything short of a full three points by the Soweto giants would see Mamelodi Sundowns crowned champions of South Africa.
