Curry out, Farrell in for Lions?

A leg injury for Tom Curry could open the door for Owen Farrell to get a call-up from his father Andy for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia.

Concerns over Curry’s hamstring have reopened the door for Owen to join the Lions squad heading Down Under in July.

The England flanker limped off after 23 minutes during Sale’s 44-34 defeat to Leicester Tigers in the Premiership on Friday – just a day after head coach Andy named him in his 38-man Lions squad.

Sale boss Alex Sanderson admitted the 26-year-old Curry had carried the injury for 10 minutes before being withdrawn. “He felt something in his hamstring and we’ll have it scanned; it could always be serious,” Sanderson was quoted post-match.

“He’s moving around and we took him off as a precaution. Tom’s a tough lad and he would break himself if you let him.”

Andy, meanwhile, has kept a couple of squad spots open, with the Lions facing Argentina in Dublin on 20 June – just six days after the Vodacom URC and Premiership finals. He hinted that Owen, who missed selection due to injury setbacks at Racing 92, is under strong consideration.

“He was in the conversation, obviously; an experienced player like that who is going for his fourth tour,” Farrell said. “We feel Owen’s still trying to find his way a little bit back to fitness. But he’d be in that type of bracket if and when needed.”
