Official reports: 263 confirmed cases and 43 deaths from Ebola in Congo and Uganda

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has reported 263 confirmed cases of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

These figures represent the latest tally, reflecting the ongoing outbreak in several regions.

Accelerating number of cases under investigation

The center’s director, Jean Cassia, said health authorities are monitoring more than 1,100 suspected cases of the virus.

This comes amid concerns that the outbreak could spread further due to the difficulty in accessing some affected areas.

43deaths and confirmation of a rare strain

The health official explained that the number of confirmed deaths had reached 43,

resulting from infection with the rare Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.

He added that this strain is one that requires a rapid and intensive medical response to limit its spread.

Calls to strengthen the international response

Cassia stressed the urgent need to activate national emergency systems

and ensure the continued flow of investments in pandemic preparedness.

He also emphasized that international partners play a pivotal role in supporting containment efforts,

provided that this aligns with the national plans of affected countries.
