Reloaded hits PlayStation, PC in August

In a notable shift, the Xbox-exclusive Gears of War franchise is expanding its reach, with Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original 2006 title, launching on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Xbox PC app and Steam) alongside Xbox Series X/S on August 26th. The game will not be available on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch.

Priced at $40, Gears of War: Reloaded will also be a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Owners of the digital Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can also stream the game via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Developed by The Coalition in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, the remaster includes all original DLC, featuring a bonus campaign act and all multiplayer content. Progression will unlock additional characters and cosmetic items.

The campaign supports online and local split-screen co-op. Multiplayer features cross-play across all platforms for up to eight players. Players who sign in with a Microsoft account can enable cross-progression, allowing them to continue their game on different platforms, including via Xbox Cloud Gaming on mobile devices.

Gears of War: Reloaded boasts significant enhancements, including 4K HDR visuals, 60 fps in the campaign, and 120 fps in multiplayer. It also features Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and promises zero loading screens during the campaign.

This release comes as The Coalition is also developing Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel announced at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, co-developed with People Can Fly. A release window for E-Day has not yet been announced. The arrival of Gears of War: Reloaded on PlayStation and PC marks a significant broadening of the franchise’s accessibility.
