The Ghana U-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, delivered a commanding performance to thrash Liberia 6-0 in the first leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Ghana dominated proceedings from the opening whistle and eventually turned their superiority into goals in a one-sided encounter that leaves the Black Maidens firmly in control ahead of the return leg.

After several early attacking moves, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 31st minute through Daniella. Jessica produced a brilliant dribble from the byline, weaving through the Liberian defence before setting up Daniella, who calmly slotted home to give Ghana a deserved 1-0 lead.

The Black Maidens maintained their intensity for the remainder of the first half and went into the break with a narrow but comfortable advantage after a strong display.

Ghana returned from halftime with even greater urgency and doubled their lead in the 53rd minute after the referee awarded a penalty for handball. Seidatu stepped up confidently and converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

Just four minutes later, Linda Achiaa extended the lead with a fine finish after a surging counterattacking run, putting the hosts firmly in control at 3-0.

The goals continued to flow as Jessica got on the scoresheet in the 60th minute. Priscilla provided the assist, and Jessica applied a composed finish to register Ghana’s fourth of the afternoon.

Priscilla then crowned her impressive performance with a goal of her own in the 73rd minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake before producing a calm finish to make it 5-0.

Substitute Mavis Yeboah completed the rout in the 89th minute with Ghana’s sixth goal, capping off a dominant evening for the Black Maidens.

The emphatic victory gives Ghana a huge advantage heading into the second leg as the Black Maidens continue their quest for qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
