El Hajeb – Negotiations between Ajax Amsterdam and Borussia Mönchengladbach for Moroccan midfielder Rayane Bounida have reportedly collapsed due to major financial disagreements between the two clubs.
According to exclusive information from Africafoot, the German side had been closely following the 20-year-old attacking midfielder for several months and had already made concrete progress in discussions.
Borussia Mönchengladbach reportedly viewed Bounida as a player capable of bringing creativity and movement to an attacking department that lacked consistency this season.
However, Ajax Amsterdam’s financial demands quickly complicated the talks. Sources cited by Africafoot claim that the Dutch club requested a transfer fee considered too high by the German side for a player still developing at the top level.
Club officials in Germany reportedly refused to break their wage structure or exceed the financial limits set by the club’s transfer policy, even for a highly rated prospective player.
Ongoing interest
Despite the failed negotiations, Bounida continues to attract attention across Europe thanks to his technical qualities and promising performances.
The Moroccan international recorded 4 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season with Ajax.
Beyond the statistics, observers reportedly appreciate his movement in tight spaces, technical ability, and capacity to create chances in the final third.
Ajax’s contract
Bounida recently extended his contract with Ajax until June 2028, and the Dutch club still considers him part of its long-term sporting project. Strong competition in attack has however limited his opportunities to become a regular squad member.
The player’s entourage is also paying close attention to his playing time following his recent decision to represent Morocco internationally.
Borussia Mönchengladbach was seen as an ideal destination for the young player because of its fast-paced style and reputation for developing young attacking talents.
For now, discussions between Ajax and Borussia Mönchengladbach are on hold. Unless Ajax lowers its financial demands, the German club could turn its attention to other attacking targets during the summer transfer window.
