Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to uphold the principles of transparency, equity and service excellence in the discharge of their duties.
The Vice President gave the advice in his keynote address at the 2025 retreat for the newly inaugurated members of the RMAFC in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, themed, ‘Understanding the Role of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and Other Stakeholders/Agencies in Nation Building’ .
Shettima, represented by his Technical Adviser on Public Debt Management and Revenue Mobilisation, Mr Ibrahim Natagwandu, reminded the RMAFC commissioners that they are custodians of a system that ensures equity among the three tiers of government and promotes fiscal balance across the federation.
Also, the Akwa Ibom State Governor and host, Pastor Umo Eno, appealed to the Commission to look into the area of computation of oil revenue remittances and all the indices as they affect the 13 per cent oil derivation funds for oil-producing states.
According to Eno, the expansion of the state’s revenue base by the bold decision of the Federal Government to allocate more cash to the states has, in the last 23 months, engendered positive multiplier effects in human capital development, infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism expansion under his administration’s ARISE Agenda blueprint.
“Because of the Federal Government intervention, we have turned Akwa Ibom State into a huge construction site with projects scattered across the 31 local councils,” the governor stated.
