The collaboration now allows UCount Rewards points to be both earned and redeemed at Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets nationwide, as well as on the popular Sixty60 platform owned by Shoprite Holdings. The companies are touting the 40% rewards offer on Checkers Sixty60 as the “most generous giveback for on-demand shopping” currently available in South Africa.

According to a statement released by Shoprite, “With no product exclusions, the partnership is designed to deliver meaningful savings on groceries and general merchandise.”

The statement further highlighted that “Card holders can also earn up to 30% back when shopping at Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets nationwide and bank these rewards for use against future grocery purchases and everyday essentials. And unlike other bank-retail partnerships, customers aren’t limited to certain products or categories.”

Funeka Montjane, CEO of personal and private banking at Standard Bank, commented in the statement, “We welcome this partnership not only as a major milestone for our business but, most particularly, for the value it brings to our customers.”

This partnership follows recent shifts in the bank-retail loyalty space, including Discovery’s move from Pick n Pay to Checkers in August 2024, and Pick n Pay’s subsequent partnership with First National Bank (FNB) earlier this year.

As announced in February 2025, FNB’s retail and commercial customers can earn up to 30% back in eBucks on purchases made through Pick n Pay’s asap! on-demand delivery service, and up to 20% back on all in-store items, depending on their eBucks rewards level.
