This latest step suggests that Microsoft is nearing a wider public launch of Recall. The feature was initially slated to debut alongside Copilot Plus PCs in June 2024 but faced delays due to security concerns raised by experts. A subsequent planned October 2024 release was also postponed to ensure a “secure and trusted experience.”
Previously, Microsoft had released limited previews of Recall to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel for Qualcomm-powered Copilot Plus PCs in November 2024, followed shortly by a preview for Intel- and AMD-based Copilot Plus PCs. Following initial testing, reports described Recall as a mix of “creepy, clever, and compelling.”

In Thursday’s announcement, Microsoft emphasized that users must explicitly opt in to enable snapshot saving with Recall and retain the ability to pause this functionality “at any time.” This reiteration of user control likely aims to address earlier privacy anxieties surrounding the feature.
