Damaturu and its environs in Yobe State experienced their first rainfall of the year on Thursday.
The rain shower began around 8:05 pm and lasted for approximately 25 minutes.
Residents expressed hope for the new season, noting that the rain arrived earlier than in previous years.
Samaila Mohammed, a local farmer, observed that the rain started earlier than last year, which he believes is a positive sign for the season.
He prayed for a steady and bountiful harvest.
According to him, the early rainfall could significantly impact the upcoming farming season.
“A timely start to the rainy season can improve crop yields this season.
“Adequate moisture can support healthy plant growth and increase crop yields.
“Early rainfall can help replenish water sources, reducing the need for irrigation and minimizing the risk of water scarcity,” he said.
The rainfall was met with enthusiasm from local residents, who see it as a promising start to the new season.
Many expressed gratitude for the much-needed moisture and looked forward to a successful harvest.
