Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeping coup on the horizon, as Orlando Pirates become key in possible transfer.
Chippa United are gearing up for life after Stanley Nwabali, as the first-choice shot-stopper is expected to move on at the end of the season. With Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and multiple European clubs vying for his signature, Chippa is wasting no time in securing a replacement.
According to insiders, the Chilli Boys have set their sights on Orlando Pirates’ young goalkeeper, Ethan Visagie. While Visagie has yet to make his official debut for the Buccaneers, sources reveal that Chippa United has already inquired about his availability.
Pirates’ hidden gem on Chippa’s radar
“They are believed to have enquired about Pirates goalkeeper Ethan (Visagie). They are preparing to find a replacement for Stanley (Nwabali) when he leaves at the end of the season. Yes, he hasn’t played official games for Pirates, but the scouts who know him have recommended him to Chippa United as a strong candidate to replace Nwabali. So, for now, nothing is concluded yet, but the interest is there,” an insider disclosed.
With Chippa looking for a reliable shot-stopper, Visagie presents an exciting option. The 23-year-old goalkeeper was signed from NC Professionals at the start of the current season and has been honing his skills in the DStv Diski Challenge.
Loan move on the cards?
Orlando Pirates appear open to the idea of sending Visagie on loan, allowing him to gain crucial game time.
“For now, they would be looking at even just a loan move. They have five goalkeepers, including first-choice and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, Melusi Buthelezi, and two other goalkeepers signed last season, Bayanda Zulu and Siyabonga Dladla. Then there’s Sphamandla Gumede. Because of the competition for places, the club is willing to give Ethan the chance for game time, and for now, Chippa has shown interest,” the source added.
Could move make way for Chiefs’ target?
If Visagie secures a move to Chippa United, the domino effect could play right into Chiefs’ hands. With Nwabali’s likely departure, Amakhosi may finally land their long-term goalkeeping target. However, European clubs are also circling, and the Super Eagles’ star might opt for a move abroad instead.
One thing is certain—Chippa United’s transfer moves could send ripples across South African football. Impacting both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the upcoming window. Stay tuned as this goalkeeping saga unfolds.
