Tesla halts Cybertruck deliveries because they’re falling apart

Tesla has placed a “containment hold” on Cybertruck deliveries, reportedly due to issues with the vehicle’s trim detaching during operation, according to Electrek.

Cybertruck Owners Forum posts indicate that service representatives are informing customers of the hold, though without specifying the trim issue. This proactive measure aims to address a quality defect before vehicles reach consumers.

Electrek also shared messages revealing a specific problem with the Cybertruck’s cantrail, the decorative trim covering the roof ledge above the doors. The resolution of this issue could take several weeks.

This problem likely stems from earlier complaints filed with the federal government, which noted that the window trim appeared to be attached with adhesive.

This isn’t the first trim-related issue for the Cybertruck. Tesla previously recalled over 11,000 trucks for “improperly adhered… trunk bed trim sail applique.”

Since its December 2023 launch, the Cybertruck has faced seven recalls. Despite over 1 million reservations, Tesla delivered an estimated 40,000 units in 2024. Reports of Cybertrucks accumulating on used car lots and a temporary factory shutdown in Austin have also surfaced. Furthermore, the Cybertruck has become a target of vandalism due to Elon Musk’s political affiliations.
