Leone Stars Head Coach 𝐃𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐳 𝐃𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚 has officially commenced training with a group of technically selected home-based players as Sierra Leone stepped up preparations for the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐂𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐀𝐅𝐂𝐎𝐍) 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬.
The training session, held at the SLFA Academy, forms part of preparations for Sierra Leone’s opening qualifying fixtures in September against 𝐙𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚. The home-based camp provides the Head Coach with an opportunity to assess the players as he works towards selecting the final squad for the qualifiers.
The session was witnessed by 𝐒𝐋𝐅𝐀 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝟏 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞, 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞, who admonished the invited players to remain focused, disciplined and determined to earn a place in the final squad.
He stressed that the collective mission is to take Sierra Leone to the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 𝐀𝐅𝐂𝐎𝐍, adding that this must be everyone’s primary responsibility. He further emphasised that selection will be based purely on 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, and every player must earn his place in the team.
Speaking to the SLFA Media Team, Head Coach 𝐃𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐳 𝐃𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚 expressed confidence in the group he has seen so far, highlighting the quality and potential within the squad while encouraging the players to remain committed and work hard throughout the camp.
With the September qualifiers approaching, preparations will continue as Coach Gomez Da Rosa assesses the home-based players and builds towards Sierra Leone’s crucial AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
