The European mind can’t comprehend the stadiums at the 2026 World Cup according to some of the people on social media.

It also can’t comprehend the demolition of a team’s training base while they’re training there, as was the case when Sweden turned up to FC Dallas’ Toyota Stadium while the wrecking ball was being swung.

Some of the backdrops to the 2026 World Cup have been stunning – Monterrey’s stadium, the 360 screen at SoFi Stadium and now the flattened environs of Toyota Stadium.

As MLS observers will know, FC Dallas are redeveloping their home which is being used by Sweden as a training base for the World Cup. It made for a surreal setting last week!

Algeria and Austria produced a World Cup classic on Saturday as the two teams shared six goals with the latter’s stoppage time equaliser taking them through to the last 32.

The goal to put Algeria 3-2 up, though, came after a 110-pass sequence! That’s five minutes of possession before the ball ended up in the back of the net.

That has to be some sort of record!

Mexican Waves in football stadiums are an abomination and this is certainly the case when they lead to mobile phones flying through the air.

Everyone online commented on the fate of the Canadian supporter’s iPhone when the real concern should have been for whatever poor soul below got a chunk of metal and glass in the back of the head!

South Korea’s failure to make it out of the group has been treated as a national embarrassment with a government investigation announced into the team.

Manager Hong Myung-bo has already resigned, but signs are appearing across South Korea banning him from various stories and public places.

Lumumba Vea has been one of the stars of the 2026 World Cup as DR Congo’s living statue in tribute to his country’s first prime minister, Patrice Lumumba.

When he couldn’t make it to DR Congo’s game against Uzbekistan due to visa issues, though, someone else quite literally stood in for him.

Jason Sudeikis (aka Ted Lasso) turned up to Sunday’s last 16 match between Canada and South Africa in a familiar jersey!

Indeed, this is the shirt design worn by Pele and co in the classic film Escape To Victory. Canada escaped to victory thanks to Stephen Eustaquio’s late winner.

Just over a week ago, Ismael Kone suffered an agonising leg-break for Canada in a group game against Qatar.

On Sunday, though, the stricken midfielder joined in Canada’s celebrations as they moved on to the round of 16, becoming the first team to progress after beating South Africa.

By this rate Kone will be back for the last 16!

The small city of Lawrence, Kansas took Algeria to their heart and Algeria in turn took Lawrence, Kansas to their heart.

This banner thanked the city and its people for their hospitality as Algeria move into the knockout rounds and away from their training base of the last three weeks. The real trophy is the friends we made along the way.

Indeed, the fans behind Thomas Tuchel’s team have been singing Wonderwall after matches at the 2026 World Cup and this Tartan Army member begrudgingly accepts this as a bit of a banger.

Jordan were one of the 16 teams to exit the 2026 World Cup group stage and they bid farewell to the tournament by leaving traditional sweets and gifts in the dressing room.

Did Japan leave traditional sweets and gifts in the dressing room? Not that I’ve seen. Tidying up after yourself doesn’t cut it anymore. Jordan have set a new standard.

Joao Neves was in generous mood as he handed out a slice of pizza to a reporter after Portugal’s goalless draw against Colombia.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder isn’t only an assist-maker on the pitch, but an assist-maker off the pitch too!
