In a bold and strategic pivot, Kerchanshe Group, a premium coffee exporter renowned for its deep roots in Ethiopia’s agribusiness sector, has signed a landmark electric vehicle distribution agreement with GEELY, a globally renowned automobile manufacturer headquartered in Hangzhou, China.

Founded in 1997, GEELY Auto Group operates as a key subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a major global player that owns several internationally recognized automotive brands; including Geely Auto, Lynk & Co, Proton Cars, and Geometry.

With an expansive industrial footprint that includes 40 manufacturing and assembly plants, alongside nine R&D centres and nine design studios strategically spread across North America, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia, GEELY delivers cutting-edge, high-efficiency new energy vehicles to global markets. Now, forward-thinking innovation is making its debut in Ethiopia, signaling a great leap forward for the country’s transportation sector.

Kerchanshe will serve as the exclusive distributor of GEELY’s full electric vehicles within Ethiopia, marking a monumental step toward reshaping the nation’s mobility infrastructure with sustainable and eco-conscious alternatives. This collaboration not only underscores Kerchanshe’s diversification into new sectors but also represents GEELY’s first official foray into the African electric vehicle market, cementing its role as a pioneering force in the global transition to green mobility solutions and environmentally responsible transportation models.

Under the terms of the agreement, Kerchanshe will offer the full suite of GEELY’s electric vehicle models, including the elegant Geometry EX5, which belongs to Geely’s innovative Geometry series, and the compact yet bold Starfish model. These vehicles are poised to redefine Ethiopia’s driving experience with their futuristic exterior design, intelligent onboard technologies, and zero-emission electric powertrain, which aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints and promote cleaner cities.

More than simply a vehicle sales venture, this partnership provides a comprehensive customer support package; encompassing warranty coverage, certified after-sales service, and dependable access to genuine spare parts. The collaboration sets the stage for a forward-looking, green, intelligent, and service-oriented mobility ecosystem, while at the same time allowing GEELY to effectively tap into the promising Ethiopian electric vehicle market.

The agreement was officially formalised and signed at Kerchanshe Trading’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, in the presence of key stakeholders from both parties. The signing ceremony introduced not just a new product offering, but a pivotal new era in Ethiopia’s transportation landscape; an era that is fully electric, globally supported, and poised for local assembly in the near future.

Israel Degefa, CEO of Kerchanshe Group, hailed the deal as a landmark development in the company’s evolution. “Our cooperation with GEELY affirms a shared vision to accelerate EV adoption in Ethiopia,” he said, adding, “This partnership is a major milestone for Kerchanshe.”

The initiative is bolstered by the establishment of Kerchanshe Auto, a newly established subsidiary tasked with overseeing local assembly operations.
