Operational Updates
- Food assistance during emergencies: WFP assisted 157,600 refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and vulnerable host populations, distributing 825 mt of food and US$ 468,916 as cash transfers. Assistance included support to 2,600 newly displaced people under the rapid response mechanism (RRM).
- Malnutrition prevention and management of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM): WFP continued nutrition screenings for children aged 6 to 23 months, while 53 mt of specialised nutritious foods (SNFs) were distributed to about 11,500 people. The beneficiaries included 8,000 children aged 6-23 months (2,740 children enrolled in MAM management), 2,900 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls (PBW/G) and almost 650 anti-retro viral (ART) clients.
- School feeding: Home-grown school feeding activities continued in the Adamawa and East regions and commenced in the Far North Region. WFP provided 35,300 schoolchildren with nutritious porridge and locally produced and processed meals during school recess.
- Emergency project to combat the food crisis (PULCCA, in French): WFP continued to roll out and upscale PULCCA activities such as home-grown school feeding and nutrition activities.
- The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service(UNHAS)operated flights to Maroua and N’Djamena (Chad) from Yaounde. This included 13 return flights for 217 passengers from 33 partner organisations.
- WFP has developed an assurance plan to improve programming and ensure the right people get the right assistance. As such, WFP is implementing stringent multistage targeting protocols, increased digitization through consistent SCOPE registration for optimal identity management and data minimization, and rollout of Partner Connect platform for Cooperating Partners (CP) management including training of CP to use both platforms. Furthermore, WFP has reinforced commodity management through measures such as installing cameras in warehouses, increased use of LESS Last Mile and piloting a tracking system for commodity movements. Finally, steps have been taken to increase accountability such as consistent education sessions on the use of community feedback mechanisms platforms.
