Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz, has formally requested a comprehensive report from the Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR, on complaints from the customers of the island’s telecommunication providers.
In a release on Monday, Minister Vaz says the complaints surround the quality of service and reliability of internet from telecoms providers.
Mobile and internet services were disrupted during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3.
Since then, telecommunication companies such as Digicel and Flow, have informed that some restoration efforts have been delayed due to damage to infrastructure.
Minister Vaz says while the Jamaica Public Service, JPS, has fully restored power across its network, it’s anticipated that service providers will follow suit.
The Minister says he’s requested a report from OUR on complaints regarding disrupted internet and mobile services.
According to Vaz, the report should include complaints received before and after Beryl.
The Minister also urged OUR to maintain consistent communication on the steps taken to address the complaints.
Meanwhile, Minister Vaz acknowledged the OUR’s efforts in to assist JPS customers who experienced billing issues in August.
Vaz says his Ministry has received over 3-thousand-2-hundred complaints from the public during this period.
He says these complaints are being forwarded to the OUR to support the Ministry’s on-going investigations.
