Ugandan children’s choir stops off in Fermanagh

A CHILDREN’s choir from Uganda recently made trip to Fermanagh to raise ‘awareness about third world poverty’ during her two stop-off tour of the county.
Members of Abaana New Life Choir recently showcased their talents at Marble Arch Caves, before entertaining a large crowd at Church of Holy Trinity Archdale Centre in Lisnaskea.
The New Life Choir is a non-profit organisation which is made up of around 20 children from Uganda and Africa, who have been supported by the Abaana project.
“The Marble Arch Caves were delighted to host this talented group, who are not only sharing their beautiful gospel music but also raising awareness about third world poverty,” said a group spokesperson.
“Their visit was an inspiration, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support their mission.
“These incredible children, representing communities across Uganda, enjoyed a guided tour of our stunning show cave.
“[They] participated in a fascinating woodland study, learning about the diverse animals and insects that call our ancient woodland home,” they added.
Abaana, the charity organisation based in Bangor, was delighted to bring their New Life Choir to Fermanagh for their back-to-back events in Florencecourt and Lisnaskea.
“One highlight from the UK and Ireland tour has been watching the children discover their talents, passions and potential,” said a spokesperson for Abaana New Life Choir.
“They want to be pilots, doctors, surgeons, engineers and they’ve met many people on tour that are exactly what they want to be which inspires them to know that their dreams and goals can also be achieved.”
Uganda, located in East Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world. The Abaana New Life Choir is giving the young children a unique and exciting experience.
“The choir will perform both Ugandan and English gospel songs and tell their testimonies,” said an Abaana New Life Choir spokesperson.
“Abaana’s aim is to raise awareness of third world poverty, find sponsors for an additional 200–300 children and rescue more children from a life on the streets.
“Over 1000 new child sponsorships were set up as a result of the 2017 and 2019 New Life Choir tour and six young boys were rescued from a life on the streets and brought into Abaana’s New Life Homes.”
