Eye of Hurricane Beryl passing south of Haiti
UP WITH US A LOT TO GET TO OUR TEAM IS READY TO PREPARE YOU. YASMINE HAS AN EYE ON THE ROADS. WE BEGIN WITH FIRST WARNING. METEOROLOGIST SANDRA SHAW WITH WHERE BERYL IS HEADING. AND I DON’T WANT YOU TO LOSE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS. THE FACT IS THAT WE HAVE A CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE. THIS EARLY IN THE SEASON IN JAMAICA IS NEXT IN LINE AS YOU CAN SEE, IT’S ONLY INTENSIFYING AND GAINING STRENGTH AND GETTING LARGER AS IT DOES MOVE WEST NORTHWEST. THE HURRICANE FORCE WINDS 165 MILES AN HOUR, AND THEY EXTEND OUT 40 MILES FROM THE CENTER WITH THE GUSTS TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUT 125 MILES FROM THE CENTER, SO BERYL MAKES A RUN NEAR JAMAICA AT LEAST TOMORROW. MAYBE NOT A DIRECT LANDFALL, WHICH WOULD SPARE THEM SOME, BUT LIFE THREATENING STORM SURGE EXPECTED. AND THEN, AS WE HEAD INTO TO TUESDAY, IT’S SOUTH OF PORT AU PRINCE. IT’S A CATEGORY FOUR, STILL LOSES A LITTLE INTENSITY AS A CATEGORY THREE SOUTH OF JAMAICA. AND THEN IT LOOKS LIKE A CATEGORY TWO AS IT HEADS TOWARD THE YUCATAN PENINSULA AND THEN EVENTUALLY UP INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO. EVEN STILL, AS A TROPICAL STORM, MOST LIKELY AFFECTING MEXICO. SO NOT A PLAYER FOR US, BUT CERTAINLY CONCERNED FOR JAMAICA AND ALL THE OTHER ISLANDS OUT THERE. TEN AND 20% IS THE SHOT OF THIS INVEST THAT IS BEHIND BERYL. SO IT HAS LOST INTENSITY FROM YESTERDAY. IT’S ENCOUNTERING SOME DUST AND SOME SHEAR. SO THIS ONE SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM MAKER. HOWEVER, IT’S HEADING THAT SAME TRACK OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS. SO THEY’VE REALLY TAKEN THE BRUNT OF THE HURRICANE SEASON SO FAR. 80 IN PALM CITY, 81 IN FORT PIERCE. IT’S SUPER HUMID OUT 78 INTO TEQUESTA DOWN SOUTH, 81 IN WEST PALM AND 82 IN BOCA. WE’RE HEADED FOR A HIGH TODAY OF 88 TO 92 DEGREES. VERY HUMID WITH A CHANCE OF SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS YET AGAIN. SO A BIT U
