NEW DELHI: England displayed a remarkable performance against Oman, achieving a historic eight-wicket win in Antigua on Thursday. This victory invigorated their T20 World Cup campaign, with England bowling out Oman for just 47 runs to boost their net run-rate and stay competitive.
In the chase, England quickly reached 50-2 in only 3.1 overs. Captain Jos Buttler remained unbeaten with a score of 24, and Jonny Bairstow, who secured the winning boundary, was not out on eight. This comprehensive victory became the largest in T20 World Cup history based on balls remaining.
Oman found it tough against England’s formidable bowling lineup. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid shone with figures of 4-11, while fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood also impressed, each taking 3-12. Shoaib Khan was the sole Omani player to hit double digits, scoring 11.
England’s win significantly boosted their net run-rate to 3.081, surpassing Scotland’s 2.16. Despite the improvement, England remained third in Group B with three points, behind Scotland, who have five points.
England is aware that a win against Namibia in their final pool match on Saturday will move them up to second place. However, even with a win, England’s advancement to the Super Eights still depends on the outcome of Sunday’s game between Australia and Scotland.
