World-renowned pianist Svetlana Smolina will perform at The Prizery in South Boston, Friday, Sept. 22, as a part of the Prizery’s Steinway Artist Series.
She has been recognized officially as one of the best pianists of the 21st century.
Smolina started playing the piano as a young child, and it wasn’t long before her mother noticed the speed at which she was learning and perfecting her playing.
She started taking lessons at a young age, and by the time she was eight, she was playing in her first recital performances.
By 12, she was winning her first national competition, and at the age of 13, she was competing in “Città Di Senigallia,” her first international piano competition.
She has performed, recorded, and collaborated with many famous musicians over the years throughout the world. She has won numerous competitions as well, throughout many countries. Her performances are described as “simply flawless” and “mesmerizing and dynamic” in review after review.
She has toured throughout the world, performing in many countries in Europe, across the United States, throughout South America, in China, in Russia, and more.
“I love exploring new places and enjoy the travel. I am inspired by the things I see and the people I meet, so it constantly brings me new emotions and feelings, a variety of which are so important to have for any musician,” she said.
In addition to being naturally gifted, though, Smolina has studied music and piano at multiple universities, earning several degrees in different countries. In the United States alone, she has earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio and at Indiana University.
In addition, in the United States, she has a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. Since 2011, she has been the director of the piano programs at the Philadelphia International Music Festival.
Smolina also hold degrees from universities in Europe, including an Artist Diploma from Brussels Royal Conservatory. This past July, Smolina was the Piano Visiting Professor at the London Performing Academy of Music.
Smolina especially enjoys performing a romantic style of music, and she has performed with orchestras and in recitals throughout the world. In competitions, she has won awards that fill more than an entire page. She has also held master classes and workshops throughout the world as she travels.
She also has made numerous recordings over the years as she plays with different symphony orchestras. A frequent guest at festivals throughout the world, Smolina has performed at the Hollywood Bowl, at the Salzburg Music Festival, at Carnegie Hall and the Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, at the Disney Hall in Los Angeles, and in almost every continent in the world.
