The BCCI on Wednesday made one change to India’s squad for next month’s tour of Zimbabwe with all-rounder Shivam Dube replacing Nitish Reddy.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad batting all-rounder had
received his maiden India call-up
after an impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, only to ruled out of the tour due to an injury. The BCCI did not reveal the nature of Reddy’s injury while confirming the development on Wednesday.
“The Men’s Selection Committee named Shivam Dube as replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Nitish Reddy’s progress,” the board wrote in a release shared on Wednesday.
Dube is currently participating in the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean, in which India are set to face England in the second semi-final in Georgetown, Guyana on Thursday.
He had been selected for the mega event after a superb run for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 17th IPL season as well as in the three-match series between India and Afghanistan in January.
Among other reasons for the the southpaw’s selection is his handling of spin in the middle overs, including on turning surfaces, as well as his solid strike rate and ability to finish games.
India play a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe between 6 to 14 July, with all of the matches taking place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
Shubman Gill, who had been named in the travelling reserves for the World Cup, will lead the Men in Blue. The squad also features wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom had been picked for the T20 World Cup but are yet to make an appearance in the tournament.
India’s updated squad: Ꮪhubman Gill (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube.
