“It was no surprise!”
That’s the word from PNP Councillor-elect for the Mocho Division in North Central Clarendon, Romaine Morris.
Morris defeated the JLP’s Clement Alves by 1-hundred-and-91 votes in Monday’s Local elections.
Morris resigned as a member of the JLP weeks before the election and joined the PNP.
Shaloy Smikle reports.
Romaine Morris won the Mocho Division for the JLP at the 2016 Local Government Elections.
On Monday night he repeated the feat, but this time as a candidate for the PNP.
The 34 year old Morris thus created history by becoming the first PNP candidate to win the Mocho Division in the history of the local government elections.
He says his success was no surprise.
Morris says party supporters from both sides in his division understood the decision he made.
At the time, Morris said his switch to the PNP was based on personal conviction and a realignment of his values and views.
The MP for North Central Clarendon, the constituency in which Mocho falls, the JLP’s Robert Morgan, said Morris was a source of constant problems for the party.
Morgan declared on January 11 that Morris would never win the division on his watch.
Morris says he has moved beyond all that, insisting he’s focused on serving the people.
