According to reports, a relative of a Spout Spring family has recently been murdered in the country of Ghana in Africa.
According to an exclusive report by ABC 13 in Lynchburg, 61-year-old Norma Jean-Gilbert, who was living in Ghana and doing humanitarian work, was killed in her own home, per a Ghana Police report received by the family. The report also states that two suspects have been arrested.
The Times Virginian found a YouTube tribute video created in honor of Norma Jean-Gilbert, posted by Cindi Marvelous and titled “Another African American Woman Murdered in #Ghana #justiceforNormaGeneGilbert.”
The video’s description states, in part, the following:
“She didn’t deserve this. Rip Queen. She was such a nice, soft spoken woman. I met her and had lunch and drinks with her. She had strong beliefs in her faith and loved Ghana. She was doing so much for the community. She told me how she was involved in providing hot meals in her neighborhood where she lived at the time, which was Moree Asebu.. located in the central region of Ghana. I was there when she was offered the opportunity to become queen mother of Moree because she possessed the qualities of that of a queen.
“I am so truly saddened and heartbroken by this. She was a good woman who came to Ghana to find the peace you cannot buy. She was beaten and murdered by a local man to whom she thought she could trust. He bludgeon her to death then buried her in her own backyard. After, he robbed her home and then stole her vehicle.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family bring her remains back home at www.gofundme.com/f/to-bring-my-mother-from-africa.
