The Ministry of Health & Wellness is advising that all public hospitals will now enter emergency mode as Jamaica prepares for the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
This means that while hospitals remain open, outpatient services and elective surgeries will be suspended.
Visits will be limited and family members are asked to pick up their relatives, who have been admitted for non-critical reasons.
Additionally, the Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care Programme is suspended until further notice.
And the Health Ministry is reminding persons that taking care of their mental wellness is just as important as physical preparations for a hurricane.
It’s encouraging people to take their medication, set up a support network of trusted family members and friends, and stay informed to better cope with the passage of the storm.
Persons struggling with their mental health can contact the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Helpline at 888-NEW-LIFE, that is, 888-639-5433.
And persons 16 to 24 years old can contact the U-Matter Chatline by texting SUPPORT to 876-838-4897.
They can also make contact on Instagram and Facebook Messenger @-u-report-jamaica.
Finally, the Health Ministry is encouraging all Jamaicans to remain safe during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
