A person of interest in the murder of interdicted police constable, Mario Thomas, has been killed.
The deceased is identified as Cary Douglas, otherwise known as ‘Stick Man’.
He was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police at a premises in Butt Up, Manchester early Monday morning.
Daina Davy reports.
Commanding officer for Manchester Division, Deputy Superintendent Carey Duncan, provided details of the incident that led to the killing of ‘Stick Man’.
DSP Duncan says Douglas was a person of interest in last week’s murder of Police Constable Thomas.
The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, IPROB.
Constable Thomas, who was attached to the JCF’s Specialised Operations unit, was shot and killed in Breezy Hill, Manchester, on June 19. At the time, the police constable was out on bail on a murder charge.
His body was found in bushes after a police search following a reported shooting at a local bar.
It’s understood that Constable Thomas was a former member of the intelligence unit of the disbanded Mobile Reserve.
He was suspected of involvement in criminal activities within Area 3, which consists of Clarendon, Manchester, and St. Elizabeth. These included an alleged case of murder, robbery, and multiple shootings.
Constable Thomas was later interdicted following his arrest and charge for his involvement in a violent crime spree where his vehicle was used. It’s understood that additional evidence led to him being charged alongside other criminals.
The police constable was interdicted on September 29, 2020. His suspension was subsequently published in the Constabulary’s Force Orders on December 10, 2020.
