Prime Minister Andrew Holness is leading a delegation from Jamaica on his first official visit to India. The visit is set to last four days.
In a post on his official X account, Prime Minister Holness says the visit is meant to explore new areas of cooperation and to deepen existing ties with the Asian country.
Among the items on Mr Holness’ itinerary is a meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Members of the delegation include Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, and Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with oversight for Skills and Digital Transformation, Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon. Senator Morris Dixon is also Jamaica’s information minister.
Also in the delegation is Indian-Jamaican, Dushyant Savadia, ambassador and Special Investment Envoy for Technology. Savadia was appointed in May 2023.
Ambassador Savadia says the mission to India goes beyond diplomacy. He says it is intended to deepen investment cooperation.
Also on the trip with the prime minister is legendary cricketer and global ambassador for Jamaica, Chris Gayle.
Jamaica has ongoing relations with India. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the world’s most populous country was among those to donate vaccines to Jamaica.
