Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, is calling on portfolio Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, to address allegations of interference in the work of the previous board of the University Hospital of the West Indies, UHWI.
This after former board chairman, Wayne Chai Chong, resigned, citing a difference of opinion with the Minister over interim changes made at the level of Chief Executive Officer at the hospital.
Dr. Guy says the assertions by Mr. Chai Chong about interference and overreach in the work of the hospital’s board, may constitute Ministerial misbehaviour.
He’s of the view that the chain of events leading to Mr Chai Chong’s resignation, show a pattern of inappropriate behaviour in the recruitment of a new CEO for the hospital.
He says the Health Minister must tell the public why he interfered in the recruitment process.
Dr. Guy says the tale of what he calls unwarranted Ministerial subterfuge, is unbecoming.
He says following the statement from Mr Chai Chong, he’s more convinced of potential disruption at the hospital
due to bad blood between top management and top medical staff.
Former CEO of NCB Financial Group, Patrick Hylton has been appointed Chairman of the new UHWI Board.
But Dr Guy says he’s not convinced the issues will disappear with this appointment.
