Nearly 70 per cent of Jamaicans believe the Holness government’s response to Hurricane Beryl was fair or poor.
The majority of that number, 35 per cent, say the government’s handling of the hurricane recovery has been poor.
That’s according to the latest Nationwide/Bluedot poll, powered by Total Tools.
George Davis reports.
The poll was conducted between September 6 and 19 among 1,246 respondents. It has a margin of error of +/- three per cent.
That time frame falls two months after the July 3 passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Despite the passage of time between the hurricane and the poll, Jamaicans have strong views on how the government handled the country’s recovery from the natural disaster.
More respondents had a poor view of the government’s response. Thirty-five per cent thought the response was poor. Thirty-three per cent said fair.
Only 10 per cent believe the government’s handling of the recovery was excellent. Twenty-two per cent thought the government did a good job.
Among unaffiliated voters, 41 per cent say the government did a fair job, while 35 per cent of those without party affiliation say the Holness government did a poor job.
PNP supporters gave the government its highest failing grade, with 55 per cent of comrades saying the recovery has been handled poorly.
Only 7 per cent of PNP supporters thought the government did an excellent job.
Twelve per cent say the job was good.
Twenty two percent of respondents who identify themselves as JLP supporters thought the government’s handling was excellent, while 32 per cent rated the response as good.
Fifteen per cent of Labourites say the government has done a poor job. Thirty-one per cent say the recovery was handled fairly.
