Ride-sharing platform, Uber, says users with inappropriate names could lose access to their account with the app’s new safety feature.
In a statement to the media on Tuesday, Uber noted that its app has revealed that some users register with names like ‘Hot Steppa’, ‘2Cute’ and some inappropriate designations.
Uber says those users will have to change their names to continue having access to the app.
Uber says to continue creating positive experiences for everyone using its platform, it has introduced a new feature allowing lessor partners to report usernames that include sexual terms, nicknames or violent words, numbers or special characters, inappropriate emojis, or fictional characters.
Safety Communications Manager at Uber for the Andean Region, the Caribbean, and Central America, Manuela Bedoya says this feature is a move to ensure all can contribute to a community with more positive, respectful, and transparent interactions.
He says when a user is reported for having an inappropriate name that does not match their identification document, a specialized team will review the name to take appropriate action.
He says if the name is deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, the account will be suspended and the user is asked to edit their name.
